America’s answer to dutch cargo bikes – the Xtracycle! The Xtracycle is a longtail conversion that takes your road or mountain bicycle and converts it into an SUB (that’s “Suburban Utility Bike”!) cargo bike. By extending the wheelbase, the Xtracycle conversion allows you to carry up to 200 lbs. of cargo, groceries, a surfboard, a child, a friend, or whatever. These bikes keep the look and ride of a traditional bike, but allow you skip the car, run that quick errand, or take home that special find without using a 3,000 lbs., gas-guzzling, 4-wheeled monster sitting in your driveway.

Flying Pigeon offers three ways to get your cargo-hauling on with an Xtracycle:
- We are a distributor for all their kits and accessories. Just let us know what kind of system you want to build and we can have the kit shipped to the shop for pickup.
- If you’re not up for taking on the conversion yourself, we’ll take your bike, tune it up, and do the full conversion for you. For $600 you’ll get back a full cargo bike with the FreeRadical and LongTail kits installed. Or design a custom setup with any of the accessories.
- Don’t have a bike you want to convert? We’ll locate and adapt a bike to suit your needs.
We currently have one complete ready-to-ride bike in stock (pictured above). Built on a 26” wheel, all cromoly mountain bike, with a 16” frame to fit most riders. $794 gets you a brand new Xtracycle cargo bike, fully overhauled, professionally assembled, and ready to go.

Now, if the “donor frame” could have some of those Dutch features… I’ve got (thanks to a grad student) a Gazelle and an Xtracycle. Chain guard and built-in lock and lights on the frame… that would be bliss. (I’ve got the generator light hub now.)

Our hope with this line of bikes is to offer a sub-$1,000 XtraCycle that can do some heavy work. However, what you have suggested might not add too much cost to the bike. Thanks again for the idea! We’ll have to do our homework on the practicality and cost of putting everything together, but it just might work.
why would I want to buy the parts from Flying Pigeon LA instead of buying it from xtracycles and having them ship it to me directly?

We bring the kit to LA, do the install properly, and stand behind our work. You have someone to bring it to locally if something goes wrong. Is this the right option for everyone? Probably not.
