We just got a small shipment of Gazelle’s stunning luxury dutch bike, the Toer Populair T3. The Toer Populair is not your average beach cruiser, “comfort bike”, or city bike. Gazelle is not your average bike manufacturer!

Gazelle got its start in the 19th century importing bikes from England to the East-Indies. They made the leap from importer/exporter to manufacturing, and have since become the “Mercedes Benz” of bicycles and bicycle engineering.

The Toer Populair T3 is a classic “omafiets” (or “grandma bike”) with a lot of special touches that turn what could have been just another bike into a jaw-dropping stunner fit for a dutchess. The Gazelle brand, by the way, has been officially endorsed by the Dutch Princess Margriet, and is frequently referred to as the “Royal Gazelle” as a result.

The Toer Populair T3 comes with finely machined metal rod-brake style levers.

The Toer Populair comes equipped with all-weather drum brakes – a popular choice on a bike made for all sorts of weather and conditions, and very common on Dutch bicycles! The Toer Populair, however, has something quite beautiful added to the braking mechanism: old-fashioned, rod-brake style, machined metal levers. You can see the graceful swoop of these levers on the underside of the handlebars in the picture above – pulling one lever smartly engages both brakes. This is great when you’re riding one-handed (with an umbrella or something to drink), and it gives the manufacturer a chance to show of the quality of the machining possible these days.

Notice the small thumb shifter mounted on the handlebars? This tiny click shifter leads to the rear wheel, where a three-speed Sturmey-Archer hub provides reliability and smooth riding.

The Gazelle Toer Populair T3 also comes with a sturdy rear wheel lock; full chain case and coat guard (to protect your clothes from getting caught in the rear wheel; a beautiful Brooks leather saddle; a sturdy rear centering stand and an unparalleled finish.

The Gazelle Toer Populair T3 Step-through frame is available at Flying Pigeon LA (while supplies last) for $1,399. To take a Toer Populair out for a test ride, or to see our selection of Dutch bicycles, stop by the Flying Pigeon LA shop! We’re open Wednesday to Sunday.
