“Where the Train Used to Go” ride and Streetsblog fundraiser this Friday, June 18, 2010

Here at Flying Pigeon LA, we’re firm believers in using food, fun, and bike rides to push our pro-bike transportation agenda. We get daily inspiration from Streetsblog LA, a must-read for those interested in re-making Los Angeles’ car-choked streets into more livable streets.

To help keep the livable streets new coverage and advocacy going, we’re co-hosting a fundraiser ride and after party this coming Friday, June 18, 2010.

Meet at the Flying Pigeon LA bike shop, located at 3404 N. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90065, at 6:00 pm. We will ride at 6:30 pm. The ride and after party will be $10 each or $15 for both. As with other Streetsblog fundraisers, donations are on a sliding scale.

The ride has been dubbed “Where the Train Used to Go” and will follow the route used by the street cars that used to ply the avenues of North East Los Angeles. Riders will get a ride card, Streetsblog bike sticker and other schwag. There’s a rumor that refreshments will be following us on a bike during the ride, but I’d still bring a water bottle.

The after party will start when the ride is over, at about 8:00 pm. We’ll have a Streetsie’s presentation, food, drink, Streetfilms and the best company to be found Northeast of the Bike Oven. We’ve also received sponsorship from Luna Bar and Trader Joe’s, so you know the food is going to be good!

Getting to Flying Pigeon LA bike shop by Metro – we’re served by the 81 and 83 lines and are just blocks away from the Heritage Square Gold Line Station.

By car, 110 Freeway, exit Avenue 43, left on Figueroa St., park at Avenue 37 and N. Figueroa St.
