November 12 to 13 we’re busy! Tamale Throwdown, LAfreestore, and Spoke(n) Art Ride

Flying Pigeon LA is getting busy helping run community events on Friday, November 12, 2010 to Saturday, November 13, 2010.

First up is the LA Tamale Throwdown taking place on November 12 and 13th. The Throwdown is being put together by the Eastside Bike Club and is being held in the El Sereno neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 4255 Browne Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90032. On Friday, November 12, 2010 from 2pm to 10pm and on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 10am to 10pm, thousands of people and tamales will come together in what is sure to be a gustatory delight. Doing our part, the Flying Pigeon LA bike shop has sent an emissary to the Throwdown to handle bike parking with a free bike valet service.

Next up is the LA Free Store opening party taking place on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 10am to 1pm at the Casa Princesa Cafe located at 4527 York Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90042. We’ll be there from 11am to 1pm with a bike stand, a set of tools, and a few spare parts to do free bike repair.

Intrigued? Here is more information about the LA Free Store:

“The LAfreestore is a place where people can give and swap by donating and taking. Yes taking. We can take what we need. We give what we cannot use. Give freely. Take without guilt. Share with your neighbor. Simple.”

Heck, even the LA Times covered the LA Free Store! You can read all about it in an LA Times blog post entitled “Give & take: Everything at the LAfreestore is free — and for good reason.

Finally, this Saturday, November 13, 2010, we’ll be co-hosting the Spoke(n) Art Ride with the Bike Oven. The Spoke(n) Art Ride is a monthly tour of art galleries in North East Los Angeles. Meet at the Flying Pigeon LA bike shop around 6pm. We’ll roll out at 6:30 (or 6:45pm). The ride returns to the Flying Pigeon LA bike shop and Bike Oven at around 10:30pm. There is more information about the Spoke(n) Art Ride on the ride’s official site.
