Join us for an entertaining and informative evening with Yves Engler and Bianca Mugyenyi, authors of “Stop Signs: Cars and Capitalism on the Road to Economic, Social and Ecological Decay“, at the Flying Pigeon LA bike shop on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 7pm. We’ll spend the evening discussing, noshing, drinking, being engaged, and getting informed about Engler and Mugyenyi’s class-based challenge to private automobility.
“Stop Signs” argues “that the automobile’s ascendance is inextricably linked to capitalism and involved corporate malfeasance, political intrigue, backroom payoffs, media manipulation, racism, academic corruption, third world coups, secret armies, environmental destruction and war,” concluding that “When we challenge the domination of cars, we also challenge capitalism.”
Yves Engler is the former Vice President of the Concordia Student Union, Yves Engler is a Montréal activist and author of five books. Bianca Mugyenyi works as the Campaigns and Programming Coordinator at Concordia University’s Centre for Gender Advocacy.

Free admission. Free refreshments will be provided (side note: a great taco cart sets up around the corner in the evenings). All ages welcome.

Getting to the shop by Metro: the shop is one block away from the Metro Gold Line’s Heritage Square Station; the shop is located near the intersection of Marmion Way/Pasadena Avenue and North Figueroa Street – so it is served by the 81 (24 hours) and 83 lines.
Riding a bike? Free bike parking in front of the shop and the nearby Bike Oven as well as overflow parking across the street.
Driving a car? Free on-street parking. Take the 110 freeway, exit Avenue 43 and make a left on North Figueroa Street. The shop is by the corner of Avenue 37 and North Figueroa Street.
