Bogota building a city for people #fig4all

I saw Enrique Penalosa, former mayor of Bogota, Columbia, give a talk in Los Angeles almost half a decade ago at the MTA headquarters.

The impact of his talk still reverberates with me, and hopefully it will do the same for you in the above video from the e2 PBS documentary series in an episode entitled “Bogota: Building a Sustainable City”.

In light of the recent pedestrian murder on North Figueroa Street a few nights ago, covered in the Highland Park-Mt. Washington Patch article, “Motorist Arrested in Fatal Figueroa Accident” published on December 13, 2012, this talk has a significance that cannot be ignored.

Designing our city for cars has a price. It is paid for in lives and limbs, business prospects for independent businesses, community, and happiness.

We need a North Figueroa designed for people!
