The Tour de France has started again, and is already up to either day four or five. Lance Armstrong took 3rd (or was it 4th?) place in the overall rankings on day three. It looks like another blah, blah, blah …
Really, who cares? Michael Jackson just died, it is summertime, and this is L.A. – nearly 5,000 miles away from the Tour de France action. Yes, there are those dedicated few who congregate at places like Scarantino’s in Pasadena, but other than that, really, who is keeping up with the action?
Besides, L.A. has its own bike tournament running at the moment (no spandex nor shaved legs required): the Coaster Brake Callenge!
The Coaster Brake Challenge is the brainchild of the San Fernando Valley’s maniac bike guru, Paul Choppercabras – owner of Atomic Cycles, and creator of so many amazing rides, parties, bikes, and ideas that I could write a book about what he’s done just this year.
The Coaster Brake Challenge kicked off this past weekend, with a member of the elite “Equipe Flying Pigeon” racing team, DJ Chicken Leather, entered in the race on one of our custom Flying Pigeon Racers (a coaster brake beauty).
Monsieur Leather came in 6th in the first of four grueling off-road races on coaster brake bicycles. The series is not finished yet!
